- How It Works
We use two WhatsApp features so you only receive the information you want:
- The Community (Weekly Announcements):The main space where we post weekly session information (time, meeting point, session type) and urgent updates such as weather cancellations.
- The Channels (Detailed Session Info):Separate Channels for each session type (Tuesday Intervals, Wednesday Track, Thursday Muster Runs).
Coaches and Run Leaders post routes, pacing plans, and coaching notes here. You can follow only the Channels you are interested in.
Important: This is a one-way system. Only authorised Admins, Coaches, and Run Leaders can post.
For general chat, please use the members Facebook group.
- Privacy & Phone Numbers
We take members’ privacy seriously.
- Your phone number is not visible to other members when viewing WhatsApp Channels.
- Community Admins (selected committee members) may see your number in order to manage access.
- We may use the phone number provided during membership to help ensure only club members join the Community.
- Joining is completely optional, and you can leave the Community or unfollow Channels at any time.
WhatsApp is a third-party service operated by Meta and is subject to their privacy policies.
- Prefer Not to Use WhatsApp?
No problem. WhatsApp is entirely optional.
You can still find run times and meeting locations on the club website.

- Data Protection
- Widnes Running Club acts as the data controller for personal data used for club communications.
- Phone numbers provided during membership may be used to manage access to the WhatsApp Community and communicate club-related updates. This processing is carried out under the club’s legitimate interest in communicating with members about club activities.
- Data Retention: If you leave the club, you will be removed from the Community.
