We’re sorry to share that our first sessions for

We’re sorry to share that our first sessions for Couch to 5k tonight and tomorrow morning have had to be cancelled due to the weather conditions.

We had hoped that as the weather improved today the conditions at the track and in the park would have improved enough for us to go ahead. However as the day has progressed the weather has become more inclement and there are large pools of water in both venues, with some residual slush. There is also a new weather warning in place for ice, and we have real concerns this would cause too much of a hazard and the risk of injury for us to go ahead comfortably.

We’re really disappointed as we were looking forward to meeting you and starting your running journey with you. We’ll try again next week.

Widnes Running Club Weekly Roundup we 5th Jan 25
Tuesday 31st Dec - Trail and Ale 7 miler at Rivington Pike. Yet another great turnout from the club. Rob Lloyd settled a personal vendetta / score with the lady pictured holding her own against our Mighty Rob in the home straight. Capt Dawn (slick hands) Hignett had a great day running with friends but more so as both of her wonderful sons also raced and performed well.
Hayley & Fran Hourigan maintained the family theme and excelled on what is a tough course. Our own Mighty Mouse Jan Swales ran another solid race. Katie Dean put on a good show and out muscled the competition in the sprint finish. Amy (now everybody’s heard about the) Bird continues to impress especially with her preparation for her upcoming Ultra. Steph (she’s soft not) Savage showed her usual grit and determination attributes gained through her undying support of the Wigan Warriors. Rachel Waring proved once more what a strong athlete she is. Adam (he’s handsome) Hampson rounded off a tremendous 2024 with another impressive performance.
Well done to all our club mates who have raced, run regularly, come back from injury, supported others, run with others in 2024 you all make this club a joy to be a part of X

The cold weather didn’t deter our runners today

The cold weather didn’t deter our runners today as over 70 members visited 10 different parkruns.

We had a large turnout at Widnes as today’s run was in our 2024/25 club championship so points were at stake. Special mention to Caroline who completed her 200th parkrun and Helen who completed her 100th parkrun at Widnes today.

Over in Austria Tracy ran at Donaupark parkrun which she said was icy cold but in a beautiful city.

Closer to home Alex Nisha, Paul, John and super dog Max safely navigated the icy paths to get to Stretford parkrun in Manchester.

Unfortunately we haven’t managed to get any more photos this week but we also had runners at Colchester Castle, Congleton, Faskally Forest, Fell Foot, Heartlands, Knowsley and St Helens.

Well done to everyone who ran or volunteered today.

Widnes Running Club Weekly Roundup we29th Dec 24
Boxing Day - WRC was well represented at the Chester Round the Walls race. Amongst those making it a family affair, The Caldwell’s where Kerry ran strongly and Joe was outstandingly rapid. Poor Richie had a DNF due to a twisted sock or other injury. The Hignett’s were well represented by Captain Dawn who proved that there are electrolytes in Prosecco and by Harry who led the charge and finished first WRC male. The Evans’ were shored up by the Real Colette making her long awaited and well deserved return to racing. If you look closely she’s burning off Lisa Webb at one point. Other superstars included Tania (minus Tilly), Katie and Simon (“you luv her”), Rob (minus Olive), Lisa (my mate) and Colin who didn’t bother wearing a costume but came as his grumpy old self x
Sunday saw the latest rendition of “let’s run in a vest and horribly revealing short shorts even though it’s cold” Cross County race at Victoria Park Warrington. WRC was hugely and enthusiastically represented by Capt (not underpants) Rob Lloyd, Paul (where did he go?) Wilson, Lisa (still only 49) Webb, Rob Ladinowski, Danny Garner, Michael ( Campbed )Campbell, Chris (the looker) McFadden, Tom Humphries, Harry Hignett, Janet (The Flash) Ellis, Katie Dean and Tracey Meharg. Great running and determination all.

On the final parkrun weekend of 2024 we had over 5

On the final parkrun weekend of 2024 we had over 50 runners at 16 different parkruns.

Elizabeth, Hayley, Colin, Simon and Katie were at Alderley Park where Katie completed her 100th parkrun and they all had a delicious breakfast in Alderley Edge.

Neil, Cathy, John & Eve had a lovely morning at Alexandra parkrun in Manchester.

Alex ran at Bolton which he reported was scenic but tough, with one of the worst hills he’s ever run up (twice!).

Georgia, Andrew, Colette, David and friends headed to Congleton. Tim and his son ran at Dalby Forest which was very cold and Tim had a proud dad moment as his son ran a pb!

At home in Widnes we had lots of runners and volunteers but a special mention goes to Rob who completed his 100th parkrun and brought cakes to share afterwards.

Paul and canine companion Max needed a Y so they crossed the border into Wales and ran at Y Promenade, Abermaw.

As well as those pictured we also had runners at Birkenhead, Burnley, Chester, Eglinton, Heartlands, Northwich, Sewerby, Sutton Manor and Warrington.

Well done to all our runners and volunteers. See you on Wednesday for the start of parkrun 2025 😊

Christmas Day parkrun saw lots of our members at our local event, Widnes parkrun. More by luck than good planning apparently, today saw Ali complete her 200th parkrun, her 100th at Widnes and her 100th time volunteering.

Well done to everyone who ran and volunteered today.

The 3rd Rendition of “Let’s run in the Mud” was held at Arrowe Park and gamely attended by Rob Lloyd (Capt Country), (everyone’s Aunt) Aunty Christine Bonnar, the wonderful Katie (Pearl &) Dean, Rob (not a lad but a Dad) Ladinowski and the Incredible Shrinking Man Paul Wilson. Well done all, you all demonstrated grit, determination and resilience today x
