Come rain, storms, or shine, these superstars have been putting in the effort and following the NHS Couch to 5K programme with the support of our fantastic coaching team — Cathy, John, Penny, and Andrew.

Today, they completed their final run at Widnes parkrun, marking the end of their journey and the beginning of many more runs to come! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

There were goodies, medals, and cakes to celebrate every step of their hard work and dedication. 🍰✨

Remember — you were a runner from that very first run in week one. 💪 We can’t wait to see our amazing graduates continue their running journey by joining more of our club sessions throughout the week! 💚

🎉 Saturday 18th October – parkrun roundup! 🎉

What a fantastic morning of running, walking, volunteering, and cheering! This week 71 of our members took part across 22 different parkrun events, showing off our club colours far and wide. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️💚

And that’s not even counting our incredible C25K superstars, who celebrated their parkrun graduation at Widnes parkrun this morning! 👏 A separate post (and plenty more photos!) will follow for that milestone — huge thanks to our run leaders and pacers for their support. 💪

Our members were also spotted flying the flag at:
Alexandra • Alton Water • Amsterdamse Bos • Bath Skyline • Crewe • Dolgellau • Forest Rec • Fountains Abbey • Heartlands • Jesmond Dene • Northwich • Pennington Flash • Phoenix • Roberts Park • St Helens • Sutton Manor • Trentham Gardens • Warrington • Wepre • Zuiderpark

🎉 Special congratulations to Simon, who celebrated his 100th parkrun at Roberts Park this weekend! What an incredible milestone — here’s to many more parkruns (and cake stops!) to come! 🥳👏

Meanwhile, one of our adventurous members took parkrun tourism to another level — completing their own parkrun in Dubrovnik! 🇭🇷 (Though judging by the photos, it looked suspiciously like Roberts Park in disguise! 😉)

A huge thank you to all the volunteers — both from our club and the wider parkrun community — who made these events possible. 🙏 Whether you were scanning barcodes, marshalling on a corner, pacing, or cheering runners home, you help keep the parkrun spirit alive every week! 💖

Whether you were chasing a PB, pacing a friend, volunteering, or simply enjoying the views — well done to everyone who got out there this weekend! 🙌

🏃‍♀️ Widnes Running Club parkrun Round-Up 🏃‍♀️ Widnes Running Club parkrun Round-Up 🏃‍♂️

Saturday 11th October

It was a slightly quieter parkrun weekend for Widnes Running Club, with many of our members swapping their barcode for race bibs at the Everton 10k, and our resident trail enthusiast Rob heading for the hills at the Rivington Half Marathon.

Even so, 52 WRC members still got their Saturday fix across 14 different events — proving that even with races, birthdays, and blustery weather, we can’t resist a parkrun!

This weekend brought double birthday joy for Tracy and Penny — both October babies (it seems to be a popular birthday month for WRC members 😉).
Tracy celebrated with a parkrun away day at Stamford Park, while Run Leader Penny sensibly took a rest day to save her legs for a trail half tomorrow — excellent forward planning!

Our members attended Brickfields Park, Croxteth Hall, Delamere, Knowsley, Northwich, Nova Prestatyn, Penrith, Phoenix, Preston, Princes, Sutton Manor, Witton, and of course, there was a strong home turnout at Widnes.

🙌 A Big Thank You to Our Volunteers!
As always, a huge shoutout to the WRC members who donned the hi-vis this weekend — whether you were cheering, timekeeping, scanning, or tail walking, you make parkrun happen and keep the Widnes spirit alive. We really appreciate you! 💚

Whether you were chasing PBs, pacing a friend, or simply soaking up the Saturday morning atmosphere (and coffee), well done to everyone who represented the club this weekend!

💚🏃‍♀️ World Mental Health Day 2025 🏃‍♂️💚

They say running is cheaper than therapy… although with the price of trainers these days, we’re not so sure. 👟😂

At Widnes Running Club, we know running isn’t just about fitness — it’s about friendship, fresh air, and the post-run gossip that counts as cardio in itself.

Running helps our bodies, but it also gives our minds the space they need to breathe. So if life feels a bit uphill right now, come and join us — no pace too slow, no story too long. 💚

And remember, talking helps — whether it’s on the run, over a brew, or with someone who can really listen:

📞 Mind – 0300 123 3393
📞 Samaritans – 116 123 (24/7, free)
📞 CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) – 0800 58 58 58

You’re never running alone. 💚

Widnes Running Club Social Media Roundup - we 5th Widnes Running Club Social Media Roundup - we 5th Oct 25

Welcome to this week’s Roundup.
As ever the WRC massive didn’t rest on their laurels but got outta bed and took on some huge challenges

Let’s kick off with the Rainford 10k where Lyn (who has the patience of a saint) Rawlinson along with hubby Roy (would try the patience of a saint) Rawlinson performed well x

Chester was a popular place to race last Sunday with both the Metric and Full Marathon taking place:
Completing the Metric were Cassandra Bentley, Eve (l Knievel) Kapoor, Penny (wise the clown) Worthington, Mark (gorgeous George) Worthington and Neil (fresh from his farm) MacDonald
Completing the Full Marathon were
Danny (Mr) Byrne(s), Carl (Hale) Barnes, Mike (& the Mechanics) Parker, David (Jonathan) (C)Ross, Katie (the smile) Kyle, Mollie (hammerite) Hammerton and Mark (Hamill) Atherton x
Everyone performed strongly over two challenging distances x

Up in North Wales our very own Jewel in the Crown Julie (Peter) Reid took on the Bangor 10k which replaced the cancelled Half Marathon she had planned to compete. X

Whilst down in South Wales was our mate Matt (Goss) Shelter who took on and battled through the Cardiff Half - well done x

Another great week by members of a tremendous running club x
🏃‍♀️ 4th October Parkrun Round-Up 🏃 I 🏃‍♀️ 4th October Parkrun Round-Up 🏃

It was a memorable weekend in more ways than one — parkrun turned 21 this week! 🎉💛
While we’d have loved to celebrate in sunshine, Storm Amy had other plans… and I should probably apologise personally for that one! I promise I wasn’t the cause of the chaos 🌬️😂

With strong winds and rain sweeping across the country, over 300 parkruns were cancelled. Even so, 44 of our determined members pulled on their trainers and took part at 8 different locations — an amazing effort in tough conditions! We even had a PB this week-incredible!

Our parkrunners were spotted at:
🌳 Aacherner Weiher
🌳 Brickfields Park
🌳 East Brighton
🌳 Hasenheide
🌳 Heaton Park
🌳 St Helens
🌳 Warrington
🌳 Widnes – where many stayed close to home given the weather

On Friday, a few of our members also made the most of Unity Day in Germany, fitting in an extra parkrun at Mauerweg and Rheinpark. 🇩🇪 What a way to celebrate parkrun’s milestone!

And of course, a massive thank you to our wonderful hi-vis heroes who braved the wind and rain to make sure events could still go ahead. You’re the heart of parkrun – every single week. 💛

Here’s to another 21 years of running, walking, volunteering, and smiling together! 🎂🏃‍♂️🌦️

Widnes Running Club Social Media Roundup - we 28th Widnes Running Club Social Media Roundup - we 28th Sept 25

This week our adventurous club mates ran as far afield as Boulder USA, Knutsford Cheshire, Stoke-On-Trent, Aintree, Nottingham, Milton Keynes & Ladybower Hope Valley.

Let’s start in the US of A with our Jan (Michel Jarre) Swales who took on and conquered a high altitude half marathon in Boulder x Did you bump into Mork from Ork Jan?

Several chums took on the Knutsford 10k:
Will (The Record Breaker) Kozer achieved another PB, Colin (the hip breaker) Laycock, Hayley & Fran Hourigan (who’s main form of training is running after their energetic kids), Rita (the lovely meter maid) and John (Yam Yam) Houghton all ran well x

Alex (Ned) Kelly stuck to his guns by only running races in his hometown. This week he will be mainly racing the Potters Arf Marathon x

Taking on the Aintree Half Marathon were Rachel (Riley) Waring and Nisha Parmar (Violets) - well done x

Running without his Merry Men at the Robin Hood Half Marathon was Captain Little John Carl Barnes

Seen somewhere between Bedford and Milton Keynes was Matt (ThunderPants) Shelter who took on and thrived at the Thunder Races 25Km Trail Race

Taking on his 1st Ultra at the Ladybowers 54k Trail event was Craig (David) Johnson along with Danny (Boyle) Lloyd who is definitely an Ultra Convert - well done fellas x

Another great week of running well done all x
🏃‍♀️ Parkrun Roundup – 27th September 🏃‍♂️

It was a busy weekend of parkrun tourism for our club, with 70 members taking part in 28 different events! One of our members even went the extra mile by writing a parkrun report for an event she didn’t attend – now that’s dedication.

This weekend also saw Macmillan Cancer Support take over parkruns across the UK, encouraging runners to wear green and donate the price of their pre- or post-parkrun coffee to support a fantastic cause. More details can be found on parkrun’s official social media pages.

This week we had big milestones including 100 and 250 parkruns and 100 locations-incredible 👏🏻

We’re celebrating some speedy performances too – there were PBs at Widnes and Alexandra parkrun this morning. Amazing work, team! 🎉

Our parkrunners were spotted far and wide this week, at:
Beeston, Brickfields Park, Burnley, Centre Vale, Colchester Castle, Delamere, Dunfermline, Falls, Heaton Park, Knowsley, Lyme Park, Meadowmill, Northwich, Nostell, Pavilion Gardens, Phoenix, Plean, Pont y Bala (not Nant y Pandy!), Severn Bridge, Sheffield Castle, St Helens, Warrington, Watergrove, Wepre, Whitstable, and Wollaton Hall.

And of course, a huge thank you to our hi-vis heroes who volunteered this weekend – we couldn’t do it without you! 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️

Same time next week?

🏃‍♀️parkrun Roundup – 20th September 20 🏃‍♀️parkrun Roundup – 20th September 2025 🏃

I’m sure it wasn’t just me feeling dizzy reading about the 19 different events visited by 53 club members today – what an incredible turnout!

Paul and Jan were literally dizzy as they tackled Somerdale Pavilion parkrun (aka The Curly Wurly). They went round and round (and round again!) before celebrating their achievement with a well-earned Cadbury’s classic. 🍫Bonus chocolate who can name the year that the Curly Wurly was invented……

Meanwhile, our members were avoiding the rain showers whirling across the country – from fast, flat courses to hilly, twisty ones – collecting PBs, pacing friends, and enjoying the parkrun magic. This week we had runners at Crewe, Croxteth Hall, Haigh Woodland, Haughmond Hill, Herrington Country, Hyde, Northwich, Ormskirk, Phoenix, Pontefract, Princes, Silksworth, Somerville Pavilion, South Manchester, Sutton Manor, University Parks, Warrington, Woodbank as well as a good turn out at our home parkrun of Widnes.

Whether you ran, jogged, walked, or volunteered, you were part of the parkrun rhythm this morning.

A huge thank you to our hi-vis heroes who kept us smiling and on course – I hope no one got too dizzy to find the finish funnel (eventually!).

See you all next week for another Saturday spin – same time, same joy

Three of our Widnes Running Club members ticked off their final letter this week by collecting their J at Jubilee parkrun! 🎉🔠

This week, 69 members laced up their trainers and took part in 23 events across the UK and Europe! 🇬🇧🇪🇺

Here in the UK, we’re truly spoiled with hundreds of events to choose from each weekend. Unfortunately, parkrun hasn’t made its way to Spain just yet—so Steph improvised and completed her own not-parkrun, which of course we’ve included in our tally. 🙌

Meanwhile, two of our brilliant members headed further afield, representing us at one of the twelve parkrun events in Sweden. 🌍🇸🇪

As well as having a large number of runners at Widnes, our members took part in parkruns in Bramhall Park, Brickfields Park, Centre Vale, Crosby, Delamere, Fell Foot, Keswick, Knowsley, Markshall Estate, Oldham, Ormskirk, Park in the Past, Phoenix, Rother Valley, Selby, St Helens, Stretford, Sutton Manor, Tawd Valley, University of Stirling and Witton.

That’s another week of milestones, adventures, and miles in the bank. Roll on next Saturday—same time, same place, more smiles! 🌳🎽
