Saturday 7th February – Parkrun Round-Up Hello Fe Saturday 7th February – Parkrun Round-Up

Hello February parkrunners! 👋

This weekend saw 64 members taking part in 17 different parkrun events. Marathon and half-marathon training is clearly in full swing, with Widnes members completing a “parkrun sandwich” and several runners heading over to Runcorn to take part in Phoenix parkrun.

A huge congratulations to Lyn, who completed her 250th parkrun—a fantastic achievement! 🎉

Well done also to John, who visited his 75th different venue at Dewsbury.

And after Craig’s parkrun was cancelled, he made the sensible decision to relocate to the pub instead—sometimes you’ve just got to adapt! 🍻

As well as those mentioned above, members were spotted at:
Birkenhead (or “Irkenhead,” if you ask Andy!), Brickfields Park, Bushy Park, Colchester Castle, Crewe, Croxteth Hall, Flint Castle, Knowsley, Rugby, Sutton Manor, Warrington, the wonderfully named Y Promenad–Llandrillo–Yn–Rhos, Zalew Wrzesinski, and of course, a strong turnout at Widnes.

As always, a big thank you to all the volunteers who made these events possible. 🙌

Let’s see if you notice who can walk on water !
The plucky warriors were: Aunty Christine (get out of my way) Bonnar, Ryan (Oor Wullie) Black, John (Ho Ho Ho) Houghton, Amy (Blue) Bird and Hayley (stamp licking champion 2026) Hourigan. Well done all x
A huge congratulations to the XC team captains Claire (the dog mother) Skea and Greg (he’s sexy and he knows it) Stephens for leading the teams and setting up camp at each race x

Well done all x

Then on Thursday, our fabulous run leaders braved the elements to lead the weekly muster runs – not even the wind could stop them! 💨👟

Well done to everyone for another fantastic week

Saturday 24th January parkrun round-up We love ti Saturday 24th January parkrun round-up

We love ticking off the parkrun alphabet at Widnes Running Club, and this week was no exception. Two tricky “Q” locations were on the menu, with members taking on both Queen’s parkrun in Glasgow and Queenswood Country Park, each offering its own challenging elevation.

There were also some great celebrations this weekend. Phoenix parkrun marked its 9th birthday, while Carl and Stacey were at Fulham Palace parkrun to celebrate Carl completing his 250th parkrun — a fantastic milestone.

A group of members travelled further afield to Alstervorland parkrun to collect their German flag on the 5k app, followed (quite rightly) by some well-earned steins.

Closer to home and across the country, we had runners at Chadderton Hall, Crosby, Flint Castle, Harrogate, Heartlands, Knowsley, Northwich, Nova Prestatyn, St Helens, Stretford, Sutton Manor, the University of Northampton, Warrington, Worden, Y Promenad, Llandrillo-yn-Rhos — and, of course, a strong showing at Widnes.

As always, huge thanks to the hi-vis heroes who volunteer their time to make parkrun happen every week.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Another long week of January, but nothing slowing Another long week of January, but nothing slowing our members down 💪
Monday welcomed our new Couch to 5K recruits, Tuesday took us back to the bridge for hills with Andrew, Wednesday brought longer track intervals with Fran, and Thursday wrapped up with muster runs across 7 pace groups.
It might have been Blue Monday and raining, but th It might have been Blue Monday and raining, but there was no stopping this group of superstars starting their Couch to 5K journey. We had an incredible turnout tonight and they well and truly smashed their first session.

Welcome to the latest Widnes Running Club social media roundup for we18th Jan
Only the one race to report on this week. But what a race. WRC had a great presence there and many of whom put in PB performances. However equally as many dug deep and worked hard to get round on what is a challenging course at a race held at a tough time of the year. It was wet, it was cold, perfect racing conditions x
Those who gave it a go were:
Ryan (Pitch) Black, Harry (1st club finisher & second in his age category) Hignett, Claire (Richards) Skea, Peter (The Boss) Speakman,
Danny (LaRue) Byrne, Alex (well hard) Whellans, Mark (Hamill) Grady,
Paul (can’t see the trees for the) Woods, Stephen (Hendry) McNicholas, David (Beckham) Jones, Russell (Harty) Hardman, Mark (the dude) Worthington, Penny (wise the dancing clown) Worthington, Lee (Evans) Dolbear, David (Hot) Cross (Buns), Hayley (a vegan is not just for January) MacGugan, Jonathan (John) Williams, Caroline (Kenneth) Williams, Becky (Harry) Potter, Jan (the marathon queen) Swales and joined at the hip to Julie (Susanna) Reid, Grace (Potty Mouth) Gorst and Danielle (she swims like a fish) Simons x
Well done all
