As we head into the second Saturday of December, what says Christmas running more than the mud of Cheadle Hulme parkrun? Despite Christmas nights out and the inevitable winter bugs, lots of our members were still out enjoying their Saturday morning runs.

Well done to the 50 members who attended 17 different events: Bramshall Road, Cheadle Hulme, East Holmes Field, Herrington Country, Isabel Trail, Knowsley, Oldham, Peel, Pennington Flash, Phoenix, Princes, Prudhoe Riverside, Raphael, Stretford, Warrington, Y Promenâd Abermaw, and of course a large number at Widnes.

Whether you ran, walked, raced—or even stayed in bed—we hope you enjoyed your Saturday morning. As always, a huge thank you to the volunteers who make these events possible.

Welcome to the latest Widnes Running Club roundup.
Did you know WRC runs a Couch 2 5K program? We are about to embark on our 4th program starting in Jan 26. Come and give it a go, you know you want to x

Our resident superhero Ryan (the thunder god) Black continued his fine running form at the Loggerheads Half Marathon. Never more at home than running up hill through a quagmire our Ryan bagged 2nd place - well done buddy x

That’s it for we 30th November 

Remember Widnes Running Club “officially” meet three times a week. On a Tuesday we hold progressive interval training. 
On a Wednesday we hold progressive track training at the excellent track facilities at Wade Deacon / St Peter & Paul’s high schools
On Thursday we hold ability group muster runs from several different locations around the area allowing for varied routes each week

🎄 On the second week of Christmas, Widnes Running 🎄 On the second week of Christmas, Widnes Running Club gave to me… another week of jam-packed training! 🎄

We kicked things off with our penultimate Festive Magic 4s session with Phil on Tuesday, followed by our penultimate Zatopek session with Cathy on Wednesday. We wrapped it all up with our Thursday muster runs led brilliantly by our fabulous run leaders.

“On the first weekend of December, my true love gave to me… 58 WRC members at 18 parkrun locations!”

A brilliant start to December with an impressive 58 WRC members spreading themselves across 18 different parkrun locations! We even had a runner in New Zealand 🌏

This weekend, our runners and walkers were spotted at:

Alderley Park, Brickfields Park, Burnage, Cheadle Hulme, Conwy, Hasenheide (Berlin!), Knowsley, Newborough Forest, Ormskirk, Penryn Campus, Phoenix, South Manchester, Sutton Manor, Vogrie, Wallaceneuk, Widnes, and Y Promenad (Llandrillo-yn-Rhos).

🌟 Special shout-out to everyone who celebrated a PB this weekend!
Whether you’ve been chasing one for weeks or it came as a pleasant surprise, huge congratulations—those winter miles are clearly paying off.

🥇 And a massive well done to our first-place finishers at Sutton Manor and Knowsley!

To everyone who ran, walked, travelled or toured—well done.
And as always, a heartfelt thank you to our incredible volunteers. parkrun simply wouldn’t be possible without you, especially fitting with National Volunteer Day being yesterday. 🧡

🎄 Widnes Running Club – First Week of December Tra 🎄 Widnes Running Club – First Week of December Training recap❄️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

The first week of December brought crisp air, bright lights, and some brilliant sessions across the club!

💥 Tuesday – The Magic 4s with Rob
We kicked things off with energy as Rob led the Magic 4 intervals. Fast bursts, steady recoveries, and plenty of determination warmed us up despite the winter chill. A strong start to December training.

🏟️ Wednesday – Zatopek at the Track with Cathy
Midweek saw us on the track for a classic Zatopek session. Under the glow of the floodlights, Cathy guided everyone through a focused workout—perfect for building strength and speed 

✨ Thursday – Muster Runs with our Run Leaders
We wrapped the week with supportive muster runs led by our run leaders. Steady miles, good company and some festive selfies

If you’re considering joining a running club then this is a great time of year for the WRC members. In December we have a fun 5k handicap club race & also a Christmas lights run where all the best house lights in Widnes are visited during a muster run.

The 5k Runway Night Run - Paul (Mao) Busow missed his flight so decided to chase his plane for 5k around the John Lennon airport x

The Silverstone Running Festival was attended and ran by Matt (Helter Skelter) Shelter x

As November draws to a close and we tiptoe toward the festive season (for those who still refuse to use the C-word before December…), our members were out in force once again.

This week, 61 wonderful WRC members took part across 23 different events — an amazing spread of parkrun colour across the country!

While there were no official milestones to mark, we do have something even better to celebrate: our very own Greg is back out running injury-free! A milestone of the best kind. 💚

Saturday 15th Nov - straight off the back of his first ultra our very own Danny (Garnier) Garner took on and conquered the Wirral 35 miler - BOOM x

The WRC Massive turned up in great numbers at the Preston 10 Miler -

Saturday 22nd November 2025 –🎀🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

What a weekend! With the date falling on 22, several of our members decided it was the perfect excuse to don their tutus and bring some extra colour and fun to this week’s parkrun. Whether you went full tulle extravaganza or opted for a simple splash of sparkle, it was fantastic to see so many embracing the theme. 

A special shout out to Karl who was doing his 50th parkrun and to Junior RD Hayley who was celebrating her birthday 🎈 

We had an impressive 42 club members taking part across 17 events – a brilliant show of WRC spirit spread far and wide. This week we were represented at:
Ayr, Birkenhead, Bolton, Bramley, Burnley, Crewe, Delamere, Halifax, Heartlands, Knowsley, Park in the Past, Phoenix, Princes, St Helens, Skien Fritidspark, Sutton Manor, Wilmslow and Y Promenad, Abermaw.

A huge well done to everyone who ran, jogged or walked today. Whether it was a personal best, a social run, a milestone, or simply showing up on a chilly November morning, you represented the club brilliantly.

And of course, a massive thank you to our volunteers – the marshals, timekeepers, scanners and run directors who make parkrun happen every single week. Your support (and occasional tutu!) keeps the event alive and thriving.

Another busy week for Widnes Running Club, and the Another busy week for Widnes Running Club, and the hats, gloves, and long sleeves are definitely making a comeback as temperatures drop! ❄️🧤

Tuesday brought interval sessions with Claire tackling those magic 4s, Wednesday saw a chilly Zatopek led by John (stepping in on whistle duty for Cathy), and Thursday wrapped up the week with muster runs at a range of paces led by our brilliant run leaders.

Huge well done to everyone who showed up and smashed their sessions in the freezing cold! 💪🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🔥

This week I have been mostly eating (running) The Warrington Way, The Tatton Park 10k and Half Marathon and Bourbon biscuits x

Our very own Toy Boy Roy Boy Rawlinson and Lyn Baby Spice Frances zipped around the Tatton 10k x
Taking on the Half Marathon and earning a course PB was “Hey Sandy” Sandra Bentley x

The Warrington Way was a key event last weekend. We had several brave folk who took on the full 40 mile course. Worth a mention in this category Danny (last minute dot com) Garner, Cutie Katie Kyle, Carolyn (Eleanor)Rigby, Ryan (Thor?)Black, Tim (Gravy) Browning, Amy (is that a) Bird (or a plane), Hayley (rain) MacGugan and Marvellous Martin Foulkes x

For the last couple of months we thought we’d be sharing just a handful of new club records… but by gum, have you lot been busy! 😄There was even a couple of clubs records set in the time it took us to make this post. 

Our runners have been smashing club records across all distances and in a wide range of age categories. The hard work, commitment, and passion from our members just keeps shining through.

Huge congratulations to everyone who set a new record — and to everyone out there chasing club/personal records. And keep your eyes peeled for some more updates of the ones set today 🙌

Another challenging week of weather, with yet another storm and a huge amount of rainfall in the last 24 hours. So a massive well done to everyone who braved the conditions and made it out to parkrun this morning!

Despite the weather, 47 of our members were out running across 15 different events today. 💪

	•	Andy took things international with a parkrun over in Poland – great effort!

The weather may have taken a turn this week with a The weather may have taken a turn this week with a few rainy training runs, but our Widnes Running Club members have been grafting as usual! 

Tuesday saw the Magic 4s session with decreasing recoveries led by Rob, followed by some tough Zatopek sessions on the track Wednesday with Cathy. On Thursday, our muster runs kept everyone moving under the guidance of our fantastic run leaders.

Saturday 8th November – parkrun Roundup It was a Saturday 8th November – parkrun Roundup

It was a quieter week on the parkrun front, with many Widnes Running Club members taking on Warrington Way. Even so, we still had 37 members taking part across 12 events, with some joining later relay legs or doing a brilliant job supporting runners along the route.

This week we were represented at: Bolton, Conyngham Hall, Delamere, Ellesmere Port, Fountains Abbey, Gloucester City, Kew Woods, Northwich, Shipley Country, St Helens, Sutton Manor, and of course Widnes.

A special mention goes to Emma, completing her first parkrun back at Widnes since welcoming her beautiful baby boy — great to see you out there again. And a big congratulations to Dave for bagging himself a parkrun PB!
