Well how did another week pass by so quickly? Well it’s down to the fact that each week reduces as a percentage of your time on earth as you get older and older. So your perception of the passing of time is that it’s getting quicker and quicker. A sobering thought but nothing to do with Running ! Our very own Amy Bird took on and conquered the Alton Towers 10k this weekend. WRC turned out in huge numbers to dominate at the Preston 10 miler, Chris Bonnar, Katie Dean, Hayley & Fran Hourigan, Claire Aberdeen, Peter Speakman, Greg Stephens, Colin Laycock, Connor Dyas, Danny
Garner, Danny Byrne, Jan Swales, Steph Humphries, Eve Kapoor, Tracey Meharg, Neil MacDonald and Kevin Dickinson all doing well. Our very own club poster boy Karl Fahey along with Emma Wilson, Julie Reid, Sandra Bentley, Paul Busow and Rob Ladinowski all ran strongly at the very tough Conwy (correct spelling) Half Marathon. Very well done to all our runners

1st of 2 posts all Warrington Way related. Not much to say that the pictures can’t convey. What an excellent event that brings out the best in all of us and from the club as a whole. Great camaraderie, friendship, fun, laughs, determination a joy to witness and to experience. Only two downsides to the day 1. Marc Maddock ran 40 miles with the tattiest shorts that basically revealed his withered and worn undercarriage 2. Some highly suspect car parking in Lymm has no doubt led to a couple of fines ! It’s a quick roundup this week as many of you are running Warrington Way. This week saw around 37 club members at 11 events. Ali made it to Burley Griffin this week whilst still on her travels in Australia. The RD was from Salford and knew where Widnes was. Jon Simons got to Erddig where he enjoyed the course and an egg barm even more!
Alex Smith finally got hi “Q” at Quakers Walk a pleasant 3 and a half lap course where he came 7th with a time of 20:26
Tracy Meharg had a trip to bonnie Scotland to get her “U” and Scottish flag at University of Sterling. Others visited Alexandra, Croxteth Hall, Delamere, Jesmond Dene, Knowsley, Pheonix, Sutton Manor and 24 of you at Widnes Well done everyone on your Parkrun achievements today. #runners #running #Parkrun #Parkruntourism

Saturday saw Penny W, Christine B, Hayley MacG, Katie D, Rob L, Mark W, Richie C take on the wonderfully scenic but lacking Arches “13 Arches Multi Terrain Half Marathon”. This is one we should all consider doing as it was very well organised and run by Radcliffe AC, plus the club house was chock full of cakes after the race. This was a very tough course and certainly took its toll on our intrepid colleagues. Hayley MacGugan came in first amongst her WRC peers. “This was the hardest thing I’ve ever done!” Said an exhausted Penny Worthington as she approached the finish line. Now that’s saying something from someone who’s married to Mark Worthington (X). Shaun Knight excelled and took 1st place and best looking guy Fawkes at the BTR Liverpool Bonfire Blast 5k today. Also today Lisa W, Rob L, Christine B, C McFadden, Tom H, Andy S, Michael C performed strongly at this season’s second XC meet at Beacon Park. Although if you look closely at the action shots Chris McFadden and Lisa Webb were having 40 winks whilst taking on the challenging course. The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that our very own running superstar (Aunty)Christine Bonnar raced twice again this weekend - Hats Off to you Christine X

Widnesrunningclub Parkrun Roundup! This week saw around 44 club members at 17 events. Ali visited the most beautiful Aussie Parkrun so far on her travels at Albert Park in Melbourne. She saw 800 parkrunners and said it was similar to Widnes. Carl & Stacey went to Whitby and did an out and back parkrun at The Cinder Track. Colin & Liz visited Erddig for the second highest attendance this year. A lovely trail Parkrun with vomit hill near the end. Paul, Max & Chris went to Haigh Hall for some last minute trail practice. Tania & Tilly just made it to Isabel Trail on their way back from Devon. Eve, Neil & John visited Kew Woods. A hungover Colette went to Lytham Hall with Dave, Georgia and saw Danny there too. Paul got another fantastic time of 24:44 on a lovely flat course at Peel. Tracy travelled to Kilrush to get her “V” at Vandelleur where she found it to be the friendliest Parkrun she’s ever been to and enjoyed a fabulous stay and breakfast. Amy went to her parents and managed to get a Parkrun in at Wimpole estate. Others visited Ellesmere Port, Keswick, Knowsley, Pheonix, Princes, Sutton Manor, Wollaton Hall and 20 of you at Widnes which saw Karl get his fastest Parkrun this year. WidnesRunningClub Parkrun Roundup It’s Parkrun Roundup time again and over 61 club members went to 17 different locations this morning. Firstly we had Paul & Max and Rachel & Danny at Birkenhead, it was a cold crisp morning to get Paul’s NENDY. Katie & Simon visited Burnage which was a nice mixture of terrain. Rachel Kuypers got in the spirit of Halloween at Crewe. Tania finally got to Exmouth after 11 hours! She says it was worth it. Steven & Ian went to Fletcher Moss. A tight but lovely Parkrun with Ste’s name on it! Jan & Paul were pacing for the first time at Great Lines. They helped 3 people achieve their goal, well done both of you. John visited Henley Woods Oswestry. A lovely Parkrun which was very friendly and had cake! 🍰. Family outing for Dave, Colette & Georgia to Jubilee. Neil & Eve went to Knowsley for Eve’s 200th Parkrun, well done Eve on your milestone. Jon Simons had a trip to Bakewell to do Monsal Trail. A slight gradient 2.5 on the up and then back down. Ali is still living her best life in Aus and enjoyed Mount Gambier on a chilly 🥶 morning there. Stacey & Carl went to Penrhyn for Carl’s 200th Parkrun and Stacey got 1st female! Kevin enjoyed two nights in Ambleside and visited Rothay Park. Gregg, Penny, Jan, Claire & Rob had a fab morning incorporating their long run into Sutton Manor Parkrun. Last but not least Tracy went all the way to Amsterdam for a lovely weekend trip with her family to get her ‘Z’ at Zuiderpark. We also had others at Bath Skyline, Clitheroe Castle, Hackworth, Phoenix, Victoria and of course our hometown Widnes. Well done everyone on your Parkrun ventures & achievements. #runners #running

Widnes Running Club Weekly Round Up WE 20th & 27th Oct 24. Fortunately for me my poor performance as a social media stand in for the adventurer Ali Lysons won’t negatively impact my upcoming nominations for RLotY 25. I started week 1 forgetting to report on Carl & Stacey’s exploits but last week I forgot to mention that our very own Sue O’Brien had great success and took first in her age category at the Abergele 10k. This week the ghastly ghouls that are Lisa Webb, Christine Bonnar, Alex and Joan Wood, Rob Lloyd, Colin Laycock, Liz Moore took on the Delamere Petzl Night Runner 10k. Although Colin is still at large in the forest, help locating him would be greatly appreciated. As if this wasn’t enough action Sophie, Josh, Lisa,Christine, Rob Lad, Shaun, Rob Lloyd, Danny, Katie, Rachel, Terry, Steph all excelled at the Clarke Gardens XC meet. Well Done All X

Widnes Running Club weekly round up WE20th Oct 24. Great efforts all round this week. The Mighty Emma Wilson excelled at the Abergele 10k. Jan Swales (Palma Half), Laura, Gill, Rita, Sara, Jo, Karen, Carrie and Liz all did the Palma 9k (correct me if I’m wrong), and caused a very concerning sangria and Prosecco shortage in the Balearics!!! Penny, Mark, Jon and Dani all thoroughly enjoyed the Standish Trail 10 just look at Marks mush X The indomitable Rich Caldwell didn’t make a hash of the Amsterdam Half. Our Marathon Men (now known as Snickers or is it Marathon again?), Chris Giblin ruled at the Yorkshire Marathon and Danny Lloyd thrashed the Amsterdam Marathon. Although Danny and Rachel haven’t been seen since their night out with the Caldwell’s - last message received “send for help!” X WELL DONE ALL X

This week saw over 50 club members at 15 events.
We had club members at Bath Skyline, Delamere, Ellesmere Port, Endcliffe, Hyndburn, Long Eaton, Northwich, Pavilion Gardens, Phoenix & Sutton Manor. Kerry & Richard Caldwell called at Amsterdamse Bos whilst they are over there preparing for Richard’s Half Marathon. Dave, Colette & Georgia enjoyed a half run/swim at Erddig. Ali Lysons is living her best life in Australia and enjoyed West Beach Parkrun. 30 of you stayed at home in Widnes where Paul Wilson ran his 300th home Parkrun. Alex & Connor went to Wythenshawe where Connor came 8th and Alex 38th. Well done all on your Parkrun achievements this week. #runners #running #parkrun #parkruntourism

Go Go Go ! Claire Aberdeen excelled at the ChicaGO Marathon ! Yet another superb performance by our Claire - many congratulations. We also had Tracy Meharg, Liz Moore, Karl Fahey, Mike Connolly, Karen Dodd, Liam Boardman and Andrew Leslie melting the tarmac at the Manchester Half Marathon - well done all of you x

Another great turnout for the teal army this week at home for our pacers week and away far and wide for tourism achievements. Over 60 club members at 16 events. Naomi visited Bournemouth for their 500th event with huge birthday balloons!
Jan & Paul went to Carlisle for Paul’s Badminton tournament and fit in a visit to Carlisle Parkrun. John Simon’s visited Croxteth Hall and was pleased with his new trail shoes. Ali Lysons whilst down under visited Claisebrook Cove. She’s enjoying Australia so much she doesn’t want to come home. It was a very wet Isabel Trail for Dave, Colette, Tom, Steph, Andy & George. Tracy spent her birthday in Jersey and got her ‘J’ Happy Birthday 🥳 Tracy. John & Cathy also went to get their ‘J’ at Jubilee and now only need their U & V before their visit to Holland to complete their alphabet challenge with their Z. Congratulations to Simon Thomas who got a massive 90 second PB of 24.34 at Northwich. Paul Buscow flew over to Queens Belfast. Chris & John got part of their Compass challenge at South Manchester. Tania & woofy Tilly chased squirrels and ran up hills, along a river and canal to get her ‘U’. Katie, Simon, Hayley, Colin & Liz visited the tough hilly but lovely Wepre Park. Others visited Bath Skyline, Birkenhead, Delamere, East Park, Sutton Manor and of course our huge turnout at Widnes. Apologies for the lack of snazzy formatting but here is the round up of this weekends running action:-
Firstly on Saturday everyone’s favourite Aussie (not Kylie) Greg Stephens and the incredible shrinking man Mr Paul Wilson faired well at the Halewood 5k. Sunday brought The ominous Chester Marathon with its rolling hills and tough finish. Club mates Lisa Galloway, Leanne Griffiths, Chris Lemaire and Nessies new bestie Sandra Bentley (Yes 2 marathons in one week!) excelled. 3 other club mates took on the challenge of the shockingly hilly Chester Metric Marathon. Liz Moore, Mike Connolly and some cry baby fella. Very strong performances by all at Chester today. Finally, Colin Kennedy ran very strongly and quickly at The Great Cumbria Run Carlisle, well done Col X

Widnesrunningclub Parkrun roundup time!

Home & away we saw over 50 runners at 18 different venues for Parkrun’s 20th Birthday.

John, Eve & Cathy visited Blackpool where John got a course PB, it is a really nice big park with lovely cafe.

Carl & Stacey saw 960 parkrunners this morning at Cardiff, Richard Bragg, Paula, Ken & Katie went to Delamere where Katie got a course PB.

Colin, Hayley, Tracy & Liz visited Epworth Equestrian for their penultimate event so they can get the “We were here” achievement on the 5k app. It was a tough two lap course on grass.

Neil is enjoying a lovely weekend away with his wife in Berlin and got to Hasenheide Parkrun where he met someone from Manchester and then someone from St Helens.

The three Musketeers & Dogtanian Paul, Chris, John & Max went to Marple.

Rachel Kuypers is also in Berlin in preparation for her Half Marathon and got to Rheinpark Parkrun.

Andrew Hankinson got to sunny Y Prominad Abermaw for a stunning Parkrun.

We also had parkrunners at Alderford Lake, Bath Skyline, Birkenhead, Isabel Trail, Northwich, Phoenix, St Helens, Sutton Manor, The Cinder Track & Wollaton Hall.

Over 20 of you also stayed at our home parkrun of Widnes.

Lots of races for our runners over the weekend wit

Lots of races for our runners over the weekend with distances from 10k to a 30 mile ultra.

Sandra was in Scotland for the Loch Ness marathon. Jan, Claire, John, Emma, Nisha and Alex flew to Germany for the Berlin marathon. Peter and Shaun were at the Aintree half marathon. Louise and her friend Bobbie completed the Tower to Castle ultra and Paul and Danny ran the Knutsford 10k.

Parkrun roundup time and this week we had around 7

Parkrun roundup time and this week we had around 70 runners at 19 different venues.

Our group at Croxteth Hall enjoyed a nice one lapper through the trees. Dave, Colette & Georgia got a bit wet at Greenfield Valley and Ali and Tania headed to Knowsley for Tania to get her K.

Over in Runcorn we had another group of runners at Phoenix who said it was a nice run and a great way to start the day. Another group of runners flew over to Belfast to get their Q at Queen’s where they loved the friendly runners and volunteers.

Paul ticked off another letter at Ruthin on an unusual but enjoyable course. Craig & Andrea did a gentle two lap out and back at Siloth Promenade and John & Cathy had a tough but lovely run at Stamford Park and recommended trail shoes if you’re planning a visit.

Sandra was in Bonny Scotland and ran at Torvean whilst Andy completed University of Northampton, a lovely course with a small hill that you run up 3 times.

We also had runners at Bath Skyline, Crewe, Erdigg, Herrington County, Newport, St Helens, Town Moor, Warrington and Widnes.

Congratulations to all our runners who took part i

Congratulations to all our runners who took part in the last of the Wirral Multi-Terrain Series yesterday. This is a fun series of races, taking in some beach, beautiful sunsets, sea shells, a little bouldering (!), and for the final race, just enough mud to whet the appetite for cross country.

It’s also great value for money, the whole series costs just £18.
